Baptism & Thanksgiving
Congratulations!
Congratulations on the birth of your child!
We join with you in giving thanks to God for the miracle that is new life.
This period of your life is a very special one and we at Gunnedah Anglican Church are privileged to be part of your journey.
It is the time when people are considering the most important things in life and we want to help you in any way we can.
We offer either a baptism or a thanksgiving service. To find out more about each of these options and to decide which is right for your family and yourself, please continue reading below.
Baptism.
As you embark on raising your child in this complex and ever-changing world, it can be hard to know where to start.
Already you’ve made the right choice!
In starting with God, you are starting with the source and creator of life and so listening to Him through his word, the Bible, is going to be important!
You may be considering church involvement and the Gunnedah Anglican Church family want to welcome and support you as you make this important step in your life and in the life of your family.
In order to get to know each other better, and for you to get to know better the God who gives us all life, there is a 4-week preparation period for baptism and the expectation is that you join us at church.
What does this baptism preparation at church look like?
You will hear with others from the Bible about the life-giving God who has made himself known in his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
You will learn what Baptism means for you and your child.
You will see how Baptism has a long symbolic history and how it symbolises that God makes new people.
You will see how the promises made fit into God’s plan for you and your child.
We believe that there is nothing more important than establishing this foundation as you enter this new chapter of your life together as a family.
There is no cost to have your child baptised at Gunnedah Anglican Church.

Thanksgiving
This is an option that requires less commitment from you.
Our expectation is that you will have a meeting with the minister to discuss your preference for Baptism or Thanksgiving. We may need to meet twice to give you time to think over the options.
What is a Thanksgiving Service?
When we conduct a Thanksgiving service we are doing three things:
We are thanking God for the birth of your child and naming your child.
2. We are welcoming and inviting you and your child to be part of God’s church family.
3. We are praying for your child that they will grow to know and understand what it means to say Jesus is Lord.
Thanksgiving services are held by arrangement with the minister.
There is no preparation course apart from the initial discussion with the Minister.
Thanksgivings are usually held at 11:30am are after the 10:00am Family service.
There is no cost to have a thanksgiving service for your child at
Gunnedah Anglican Church.
